West Side Transport has had the pleasure of providing recent truck school graduates the opportunity to continue their training to become a professional truck driver for over five years. We continue to successfully train recent truck school graduate students by offering a training program that is the best of the best.
It starts with a two-day orientation to learn the ins and outs of West Side Transport. When orientation is completed, the recent truck school graduate will be assigned to a driver mentor where they will begin three weeks of training. Once the student completes the on the job training, they will then be brought to our main terminal to attend our Finishing School.
At West Side Transport we host driver orientation at three different locations in order to better accommodate new drivers. We currently have orientation in Cedar Rapids, IA, Glenwood, IL and Columbus, OH. Drivers attend a two-day driver orientation that is hosted twice a week starting on Monday and Wednesday.
Hosting multiple orientation classes per week keeps class sizes at a minimum which allows for more individual attention so we can make sure you graduate orientation understanding the information. Let's start off your new career at West Side Transport on the right foot and help you be successful.
After graduating from finishing school, the recent truck school graduate will be given a certificate of completion and presented to the employees of West Side Transport on this great achievement.
West Side Transport finishing school is an extension of our driver training program.
Once you complete your on the job training with your driver mentor you will be brought to Cedar Rapids, IA to attend Finishing School.
The Finishing School of our driver training program is a 3-day in-house teaching session. The school is designed to ensure your success by focusing on the utilization of the Qualcomm, Trip Planning and Hours of Service. We also have a hands-on backing clinic which will help your comfort level with the straight line, 45 degree and blind side back. The instructor will ride along with you on your first assigned load that will be a local load. They will be conducting the final road test at the same time which allows the instructor the opportunity to verify you have a rounded understanding of completing each load in a successful manner. Learning a new position takes times, and truck driving schools don't teach new drivers everything they need to know to be successful which is why West Side Transport started the Finishing School as a part of our driving trainer program.
From our orientation to the driver trainers to the finishing school we have everything it takes for every recent graduate to start off their new career successfully.
They will no longer be considered a recent truck school graduate, and will now be an experienced company driver.
